Open House Breakfast

February 13th, 2009

On Thursday, February 12th we were joined by many friends and neighbors in celebrating our housing project with Safehouse, a four apartment house on Broadway. Over 75 people braved the chilly wind to tour the house and hear more about the work of both Avalon Housing and Safehouse.

The house is a beautiful home, built circa 1930, complete with the original woodwork, stain-glass windows and built-in features. With generously sized rooms and walk-in closets, tons of light and plenty of playspace outside, the house will be a wonderful new home for four families starting new lives having suffered through the experience of domestic abuse.

Our guests had the chance to see our work in progress, from the finished upstairs apartment through to the garden level residence, which is still in need of some TLC before the tenants arrive in the next couple of months. Also on display were overflowing welcome baskets, kindly collected by the neighboring congregation of St. Aidan’s Episcopal church. Guests indulged in a fabulous breakfast spread, donated by Zingerman’s Deli.

We appreciate everyone for taking time out from their morning schedules to come together and celebrate this very special project, Northside Ministries for letting us use their parking lot and, of course, Zingerman’s for providing refreshments!
