Good Things in 2019By: Avalon Housing
In 2019 the Avalon community received many different kinds of support from so many people. Here are just some of the highlights:
In February, we unveiled the Avalon Memorial Tree, in honor of people in our community whom we’ve lost.
In March, we received this beautiful note and a donation from Sadie, one of Avalon’s youngest donors.
In April, we completed technology and furnishing upgrades at our community centers with funding from the Buhr Foundation.
In May we celebrated the completion of another session of Telling It, a creative arts program that helps kids heal from trauma.
In June, several volunteer groups did cleanup work and planted flowers at our properties!
In August, Cross Fit Ypsilanti partnered with our youth development staff for Avalon Youth Field Day.
In September, another cohort of Avalon’s tenant leadership program, or VOCAL (Voices of Community Leaders and Advocates) graduated.
In November, we celebrated the grand opening of LevelOne Bank’s new branch on South Maple Road in Ann Arbor. The branch walls are decorated with art on loan from Avalon tenant artists.
When I look at all these pictures, I think of all that we have to be grateful for. Thank you, everyone!
