Michigan Homelessness Advocacy DayBy: Avalon Housing
Avalon staff and residents joined their peers at this all-day event hosted by the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness at Lansing Community College. Avalon residents Linda, Sharon and Julia shared their stories with Michigan legislators, including State Representative Yousef Rabhi. On behalf of the over 66,000 Michigan citizens who are experiencing homelessness, they urged our elected officials to support state bills that would:
-Make it easier for veterans and people experiencing homelessness to obtain state IDs and vital documents in Michigan;
-Decriminalize homelessness and increase access to housing for returning citizens;
-Champion affordable housing and
-Increase funding for homelessness services.
